Jamb registrar, Prof Ishaq Oloyede, had just issued a press release today that the National identification number (NIN) which had earlier said to be compulsory for the enrolment into the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) 2020 will no longer be necessary, he stated this at a press conference held today at the board headquarters.

In an earlier tweet on the board platform, the board had earlier instructed students wishing to sit for the UTME 2020 to go to the nearest office of NIN today for their enrollment as the exams registration is expected to kick off tomorrow.

He said the board decided to shift the requirement of NIN for registration of UTME is to allow more candidates to obtain their NIN.

We hope this will come as a big relief to the candidates as there is no need to go and queue for their NIN registration today but it will still be wise to do it once you have the opportunity as we may not know when an urgent need for it will arise again.

Candidates are just to text their names to 55019 to create their profile and not worry about the NIN requirement any longer until 2021 UTME.

In the first place, what concerns the registration of UTME with NIN, even opening of bank accounts does not require NIN, or are they going to give the kids admission abroad?, Anyway thanks for removing now but I don't see it as a good idea to link NIN with UTME registration because to register for NIN is war and takes years for their id card to be ready.
