Coming barely 12 days after assumption of office, the new FIRS boss Mr. Muhammad Nami has issued a statement to all the taxpayers who are yet to receive their tax clearance certificate (TCC) or yet to process theirs a window of opportunity to do so between 2nd of January and 31th of the same month and have it within a short duration. In a statement signed by him, he said:” Notice is hereby given that the Service has put in place machinery to issue 2020 TCC for all eligible taxpayers from 2nd January to 31st January 2020.”
This is coming on the heels of complaints by taxpayers of delays in the processing of TCC by FIRS; some organization can take months to get their TCC leading to it not meeting up with the contract they need it for while some might even resort to bribing the official just to get it earlier.
The Tax clearance certificate (TCC) is an important document needed by companies or organizations and some of the importance include: obtaining of loans, bidding for contracts, Government loan for industry or business, registration of Motor Vehicle, application for firearms license, application for foreign exchange or exchange control permission to remit funds outside Nigeria, certificate of occupancy, approval of building plans, trade license, import or export license, application for distributorship, election into public office e.t.c to mention just a few.
Nami also stated that FIRS will not hesitate to place a lien on bank accounts of defaulting organization or organizations that were later discovered that they have misled FIRS in their tax liability declaration.
